Family member lauds individualized care'The people here are very caring'February 1, 2012Jo-Ann Graham says one of the best things about her mother living at Maplewood is the fact that the home's staff members strive to provide residents with individualized care. Graham's mother Eleanor Waugh has lived at the Brighton long-term care home for 2 1/2 years. She characterizes her mother as a "very independent woman," and says the Maplewood team recognizes this aspect of her mother's personality and provides her with the independence she needs, while maintaining a safe environment. "I think (the care at Maplewood) is excellent — the people here are very caring," Graham tells the OMNIway. "She's well looked after here and everyone enjoys her. . . . The staff here is all amazing with her." Graham adds that her mother enjoys the company of the OMNI Health Care home's staff, especially if it involves laughing or joking with them. And knowing her mother's personality, staff members are always willing to engage her in fun dialogue, she notes. "They joke with her and she jokes back with them," says Graham. "I see her interacting with almost everybody on staff." Maplewood staff members also make sure Mrs. Waugh is always wearing her finest clothes and has her hair made and makeup on. This is important to the resident, who is a retired high-school school teacher who has always taken pride in her appearance, says Graham. "They always help her pick out which clothes to wear so she always looks nice, and that's always been important to her," says Graham. While her mother has lost some of her physical abilities over the years, Graham says the Maplewood team has ensured her mother is being provided with the best life quality possible. "She has got the best quality of life she could have — she's got 24/7 care from caring people," she says.
